Note: this subaru is only available until march 14, 2017 . . . If not sold by then, it will not be available until mid april. Fantastically well-maintained go-in-the-utah-snow '97 subaru legacy wagon. I've owned this trusty subbie for twelve (12) years and it has never let me down, never, never, ever. I bought it from the original owner (a neighbor), so i know the entire history since brand new. I've cared for it and it has cared for me. It has had it's oil changed according to recommendations since new and had 90% easy freeway miles. Frankly, it has been more trusty than my ex-wife . . . It got me through the divorce and has just kept giving without ever asking for much in return except a little love (ie. Good maintenance). . . Yes, these are the vehicles i want my adult children, their spouses and my mother to drive . . . And they are more than happy to do so because they know how reliable and fabulous subarus are from much exposure over their lifetimes. The body on this wagon is in overall good shape (never been in a real crash or accident . . . Has a clean title), and the interior, while showing a little bit of wear, is amazing for being 20 years old. The defects on the body are a couple of parking lot scrapes, bug chips on the hood and some rust in the usual places . . . But it still looks decent. Posivitives: timing belt replaced last year. This is very important for two big reasons. First, 1997 was the last year of the 2. 2 engines that do not self destruct and turn to toast if the timing belt ever breaks while running. In 1998 and newer models of the 2. 2 (as well as all 2. 5 engines), the pistons eat the valves, resulting in total internal destruction of the engine when the timing belt breaks. Many people don't understand this with costly results . . . Just look at all the subarus being advertised needing engine replacements. Because the timing belt is an important maintenance item that should be replaced every 90,000 miles, i had this done last year, so it should be good for another 80,000 or so miles. Second, the 1997 and earlier 2. 2 engines are known to not suffer from leaking head gaskets that are very expensive to have repaired . . . So this is another big ticket item to feel comfortable about. Note: i've owned and driven subarus since 1981. That is a long time! I'm a car guy and have owned a bunch of other types of cars as well, from trucks to suvs, to vans, sports cars and everything in between. This includes most all vehicle makes and types, foreign and domestic, from economy cars to many porsche and mercedes models. It is my sincere opinion that subaru wagons are the absolute best vehicle ever conceived and made for going in the snow, low maintenance costs, reliability, versatility and overall satisfaction that money can buy.
